Life Learning Academy is committed to creating a nonviolent community that students can turn to for reliable, trusted support. We welcome students into an “extended family” which motivates everyone to give and receive support, develop responsibility and judgment, and build the academic, job, and social skills necessary to be successful.
Our model is based on the principle of each one, teach one: a philosophy that values everyone sharing responsibility for each other’s learning. Everyone at the school—teachers and students alike—are responsible for helping each other develop principles of honesty, integrity, and achieving success. Students see teachers and staff as allies. They develop a commitment to caring for their friends by helping them make good choices.
Life Learning Academy is a community committed to keeping itself strong and healthy through service to one another. We understand that we are all in this together.
The Life Learning Academy community
The core of our community is accountability, mutual respect, and love.
After-school groups for girls and boys give students common ground and an opportunity to talk about things going on at work, school, and at home.
The entire Life Learning family eats together every day. Students, staff, and guests share community, conversation, and a delicious hot meal prepared by students in our Culinary Academy.
Life Learning Academy instills a commitment to giving back in every student. Among our communty programs is a Community Supported Agriculture service, delivered straight from the Life Learning garden to needy families on Treasure Island.
Chef Derrek ensures students have three meals a day and the skills and confidence to incorporate culinary expertise into their daily lives — and for some, as a career — after graduation.
