Life Learning Academy: A Clinical Community
Training with Heart and Purpose
Training at Life Learning Academy (LLA) is an invitation to step out of the traditional clinical box and into a vibrant community. For nearly 30 years, we have served young people not just as students, but as whole individuals deserving of education, housing, and mental health support. This traineeship offers Clinical Psychology Doctoral Students a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of clinical practice and social justice.
The Experience
At LLA, therapy is woven into the fabric of student life. You will work with high school students and alumni (ages 14–25), engaging directly with the real-world complexities of trauma, community violence, and systemic inequality that shape their daily experiences. The work requires a spirit of flexibility and meeting youth exactly where they are. In addition to providing individual therapy, trainees may also have the opportunity to attend a support group for teens and young adults.
Our Values in Action
We believe that effective training is holistic. While you will hone your skills in evidence-based modalities, you will apply them through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens. You will learn to see beyond symptoms to understand how intersectional challenges—from housing instability to identity formation—impact a young person's path to independence.
Join Us
We are looking for trainees ready to bring their authentic selves to this work. To apply, please submit your CV, two letters of recommendation, and a cover letter sharing your connection to our mission and your interest in working with transition-age youth.
