What We Do

College Readiness

Our college readiness program introduces the possibility of college to every single student and presents the choice of pursuing college, a career, or both. We show each student what it would look like to apply to and attend college. Our college counselor matches students’ interests with their next steps after graduation, assists with filling out the FAFSA, and takes students on campus tours across the Bay Area. During these tours, they visit the financial aid office, the college counseling office, and the registrar. The counselor helps students select and register for courses. She ensures that every student has an adult at the college campus they can turn to for guidance.

To increase college persistence, we introduce students to college prior to graduation through our Concurrent Enrollment Program. Students have the option to take one college-level class per semester at Skyline College beginning in their junior year at Life Learning Academy. We offer transportation to and from Skyline, homework assistance, mentorship, help understanding course tools, and emotional support. By introducing students to the academic rigor of college with more transition time and robust support, they will be more likely to persist in post-secondary education.

Students are encouraged to take college courses at Skyline College concurrent to their junior and senior year of high school, while they benefit from tutoring and support at LLA. We believe students who experience initial success in college are more likely to persist to their degree.

During their senior year, students work with staff to create an individual post-LLA transition plan, including plans for work and/or postsecondary education.
